Hi! I was wondering, up to what age can I allow this pulling the tissues action? In my classroom, I have a few 2-3 year olds that would pull almost half of the tissues from the box. They probably have never done it at home (or weren't allowed to). Not so verbal yet 2 year olds were a bit difficult to redirect. What should I say to them? Thank you!

Hi Lisa, Pulling the tissue is something I'd like my kids to experience, but NOT something I would permit on an ongoing basis. If you feel the child hasn't experienced the action of pulling the tissue at all, it's okay to allow them to experience it once or twice, but once they've done that, I would simply take it away or say "no" if they keep doing it. Don't explain too much, with a child at this age, taking it out of the environment/their sight is the best thing to do if you don't want them to have it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

What about creating activities in your classroom that are similar to the pulling of tissues? Then the children will still be able to fulfill their need to pull at an object and learn that tissues are mainly used for wiping noses and eyes.
